Jacob Biebert graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a minor in mathematics. He was called to teach grades 5-6th at St. Paul’s in Beverly Hills, Florida from 2014-2017. During his time in Beverly Hills, Florida he participated in a principal training program that our synod, The WELS, offers. In the Spring of 2017, he was called by St. Matthew to serve as principal and teach grades 5-8. Jacob has a passion for helping his children grow both spiritually and academically. Outside of school, Mr. Biebert loves to watch and play sports of all varieties. He also loves the outdoors and is an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper/hiker. In December 2017 Mr. Biebert became a father, as he and his wife were blessed with the gift of a baby girl.
Kelsey Steffens - Grades 2-4
Mrs. Kelsey O'Haver
Kelsey O'Haver grew up in Appleton, Wisconsin. In 2011, she graduated from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
After graduation Mrs. O'Haver taught English at a primary school in Wuhan, China from 2011 to 2013. In the summer of 2013 she accepted a Call to teach grades 2-4 at St. Matthew Lutheran School.
Kelsey enjoys traveling and has been to eight different foreign countries including the Dominican Republic, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In her free time, Kelsey enjoys rock climbing, canoeing, golfing, skiing, scrapbooking, reading and martial arts.
Rachel Taasaas - Kindergarten-1
Miss Rachel Taasaas
Rachel is originally from Bremerton, WA, and is excited to make her way back to the Northwest. After graduating in December 2009 from Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, she received a Call to serve as the Early Childhood Director in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 2010 she was called to teach Kindergarten and 1st grade at St. Matthew.
Along with her Early Childhood Degree she also has an Associate in Arts and Science degree from Olympic Community College in Bremerton and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from Seattle University.
When Rachel's not in her classroom she is training for a half marathon and is cheering for the Nebraska Huskers and the Seattle Seahawks.
Miriam Schultz - 2, 5-8 Reading and Language Arts
Mrs. Miriam Schultz
Miriam Schultz grew up in Milwaukee, WI and attended a Lutheran grade school, high school, and college. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. After marrying Pastor Kevin Schultz, they were blessed with two children – Caleb and Tabitha. The Schultz’s have lived in some beautiful places, but now they reside in one of the most beautiful places of all – Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Mrs. Schultz has experience in teaching everything from preschool to 8th grade. In her current position teaching literature and grammar to 2nd graders and 5-8th graders, she is passionate about discovering her students’ individual strengths and needs. In her free time, Mrs. Schultz enjoys taking bike rides with her husband, training for Bloomsday, and visiting family.
Donna Lindsay - Preschool Director and Teacher
Mrs. Donna Lindasy
Donna Lindsay graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. After getting married to Mark in 1985, they moved to Baltimore, Maryland, then to Indianapolis, Indiana, and finally planted their roots in Spokane in 1996. Donna became the preschool director and teacher at St. Matthew in 2004. She has more than 13 years of experience teaching 3 and 4 year olds.
Donna enjoys spending time with her four daughters (Erinn, Megan, Shannon and Colleen) and granddaughter (Bria) all of whom still reside here in Washington. During her free time, Donna enjoys babysitting, watching soccer games and highlights, and yard work.
Kevin Schultz - Associate pastor
Pastor Kevin Schultz
Pastor Schultz joined St Matthew in June of 2014 with his wife, Miriam, and their two grown children: Caleb & Tabitha. He currently lives and serves as the lead pastor at our second church site in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, called “The Vine.”
Pastor Schultz grew up in Wisconsin and went to high school at Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While there, he began his pastoral studies. After graduating he attended Northwestern College in Watertown, WI, where he studied Greek & Hebrew along with theology and Biblical history and received a bachelor’s degree in Biblical languages. From there he went on to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI, and received a Master of Divinity degree in theology. While studying at the seminary, he served an internship for one year at St John’s Lutheran Church in Burlington, WI.
Upon graduating from the Seminary, he married his wife Miriam Westendorf and served as pastor of Abiding Word Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada for 20 years, and also president of WELS-Canada. In 2007 he moved to San Diego, California, and served Reformation Lutheran Church for 6 years, before moving to Spokane and then to Coeur d’Alene in 2016 to serve as pastor at The Vine.
Pastor Schultz loves the Lord and is passionate about reaching people for Christ and seeing their lives changed for the better.
